Get Going -The Hindu Monday, May 31, 2004 - My first ever writeup
Results of EAMCET are out yet again and I'm filled with mixed emotions. Time rolled back to when I attempted the exam. My dream was to get into BITS Pilani and I was so confident of realising my dream that I just gave a token appearance for EAMCET sans any preparation.
But fate had something else in its store. I failed to get into BITS Pilani by 2 marks. All my dreams lay shattered. I was utterly dejected. I cried a lot but then I realised what would be the state of mind of someone who lost the exam by a single mark. Someone told me, "Whatever happens is for your own good." So, I decided to see what was in store for me.
We got our EAMCET results. I wasn't expecting much, but ended up with a very big rank! All of 18,199! I didn't feel bad because I knew how much I worked for it. With the same rank, I got into a very good college and believe me I'm doing really fine! But, the worst news, which I came to know later, was that a friend of mine had killed herself for not being able to get a good rank. I was shocked. Here I was giving no importance to a rank in EAMCET whereas the girl had given her life for it.
Now with the EAMCET results out again I dread such news. I'm writing this just to tell everyone that EAMCET is not the end of the world. If you are not able to score well this time, no problem. If you have the patience try again or else go for something else which you are interested in. Life is too precious to be given up just like that, more so for trivial things in life like losing a lover, faring badly in an exam or annoyed at parents chiding you. It is better to live for something than die for nothing.
I would also like to make a humble request to the parents not to force their children to go for something, which they don't want to. Let them do and let them become what they want to. I understand that parents want their children to do what they were not able to do in their younger days, but at the same time I would like to tell them that they are also doing the same mistake of not letting them do what they want to.
Also, do not compare your children with others, it hurts. Then, one knows more things by losing than winning. I don't mean to say that you should lose but I would say don't get disheartened, if you lose just make it a stepping stone for success.
Every time you fall, get up and going.
